Orange jam

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for homemade orange jam:

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium oranges
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 cups granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fruit:

    • Wash the oranges and lemon thoroughly.
    • Peel the oranges, removing as much of the white pith as possible, and separate the segments. Remove any seeds.
    • Dice the orange segments into small pieces.
    • Zest one of the oranges and the lemon, and set the zest aside.
  2. Cook the Jam:

    • In a large saucepan, combine the diced oranges, lemon juice (from the lemon), orange zest, sugar, and water.
    • Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Simmer:

    • Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and reaches a jam-like consistency.
  4. Check for Doneness:

    • To test if the jam is ready, place a spoonful on a cold plate and let it sit for a minute. Run your finger through it; if it holds its shape and wrinkles slightly, it’s done. If not, continue to cook for a few more minutes.
  5. Cool and Store:

    • Allow the jam to cool slightly, then transfer it to sterilized jars. Let it cool completely before sealing and refrigerating.

Storage:

  • Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or process in a water bath for longer shelf life.

Enjoy your orange jam on toast, in desserts, or as a delicious topping for yogurt!
